XL Reporting Service – Driver Requirements

You are here:
< All Topics

XL Reporting Service requires you to have the proper ODBC drivers for your database installed on the computer you’re using it, as it connects directly to the database.

Note! You don’t need the DBxtra Designer on that computer, just the ODBC database drivers.

If you don’t know which drivers you need, for a direct connection, you can open the DBxtra Designer, then select the desired data connection and right click it, select Edit Data Connection and see in the yellow text above the connection details for information of the drivers needed for your database.

Note: If there is no yellow text above the details of your data connection, then you don’t need any special driver for this database to work properly.

f your data connection uses ODBC or OLE DB, then you need the same drivers you use for the DBxtra Designer on the computers which are going to use XL Reporting Service.

If you want to know which drivers you use, you can select the desired data connection and right click it; then select Edit Data Connection.Under Connection String, look for the Provider information. If you’re using a DSN, then the process is a bit more complex, as you need to recreate those DSNs on the computers which are going to use XL Reporting Service; for this, you need to install the drivers you use with DBxtra and either create the DSNs manually or by exporting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI key from the registry of the computer where DBxtra is installed and then importing it on the computers which are going to use XL Reporting Service.
