Until now DBxtra used a MS Access database as Report Repository and although we never heard of any problem, DBxtra version 7.1 now uses a MS SQL Server database for storing all report definitions in its Report Repository.

The MS SQL Server DBxtra Report Repository definitely offers more stability and quicker access to report definitions.

If you upgrade from a prior DBxtra version, the DBxtra installer will automatically download and install the free SQL Server CE for you.

Important! When you run DBxtra 7.1 for the first time you’ll be asked if you want to migrate your Report Repository to the new file format – SQL Server.

Note! To migrate your Report Repository to a MS SQL CE database you need to run DBxtra on the PC / Server where the Report Repository is installed.

If you accept that then DBxtra will create a new DBxtraDB.sdf file for you and automatically connect to it. Your old MS Access DBxtraDB.mdb Report Repository will be still there but from now on DBxtra will use the .sdf file as Report Repository.

Note! If you decide not to upgrade on the first use of DBxtra version 7.1.0 you can do that later by selecting the option on the menu bar.

NET Framework 4

Important! DBxtra version 7.0.1+ requires the –NET Framework 4 which will be installed automatically running the DBxtra setup.
